From the Desk of The Rider's Director
On April 25, 2026, the Riders of Post 1776 ALR held our very first group ride since officially receiving our charter. Our destination was the annual "Smokin' on Blackshear BBQ & Balloon Festival" in Cordele, Georgia.
We had a total of eight Riders make the trip (Plus 5 more family members), consisting of four bikes and two cages. Thw ride over was pleasant and uneventful, with the weather cooperating and no rain along the route. Unfortunately, that didn't last long. After spending about an hour or so at the festival visiting vendor booths and enjoyingh the atmosphere, the clouds opened up and the rain came downwell before the hot air balloons could launch. Needless to say, we never got to see the balloons.
Like any good group of veterans, we adapted, improvised, and overcame the situation, turning it into a great evening of fellowahip and comaraderie over a few adult beverages and old war stories back at the hotel.
The following morning, after breakfast, we packed up and began the ride home. Along the way, we stopped to tour the National Prisoner of War Museum in Andersonville, Georgia. Despite the rian, it was a memorable and successful first ride for our Riders, and a greatopportunity to strenthen the bonds of fellowship that make this orgaization so special.

Visiting a Veteran in Need
Several Post 1776 Riders recently took time to visit Navy veteran Mr. Butch Grimes, who is currently battling cancer and has been feeling a little down in spirits.
As a lifelong motorcyle enthusiasts oursleves, we know there is just something special about the sound of motorcycles coming down the road. The moment Mr. Butchheard the bikes coming around the corner, his entire demeanor changed and his spirits immediately lifted. Seeing the smile on his face reminded us all how meaningful simple acts of fellowship and support can be.
The visit gave our Roders an opportunity to spend time with a fellow veteran, share stories, laughter, and encouragement, and remind Mr. Butch that he is not fighting this battle alone. Moments like these reflect what the American Legion and its Riders program are all about - veterans supporting veterans and standing beside one another through both the good times and the difficult times.
Upcoming Events
- There is a poker run scheduled May 30, 2026 to benefit Phil Moseley (Wicksburg HS teacher with cancer). this is not a group event, but an opportunity to ride.
- There is no group ride scheduled for June, we are looking at doing a "Flagpole for Veterans" ride for Mr. Butch Grimes, Jared's neighbor, a Navy veteran. We need to look at either June 13 or June 20.
