AMERICAN LEGION ANNUAL DUES 2027
Yes, its time to start collecting Dues for your American Legion 2027 membership.
The American Legion starts collecting dues for the next year in July.
For example, 2027 membership dues are payable starting July 1, 2026.
HOW SHOULD I PAY MY ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES AND WHY?
Many of you may receive a renewal notice from National for renewal of dues.
HOWEVER, it is generally better to pay your American Legion annual
directly to your local post. Here’s why:
1. Supports Local Programs Directly: More of your dues stay within your community helping to support local veterans support, youth programs, memorial events, and outreach efforts.
2. Faster processing and recognition: Your local posts will immediately know you have renewed, which can insure continued access to post communications and events.
NO delay in receiving your membership card.
Eligibility to vote or hold office (if applicable).
3. Build Stronger ties with your post: Paying in person, or locally, reminds your post leadership that you are an active, engaged member, and they may reach out to you for opportunities or needs.
Best Practice Recommendation
Pay your local post directly (by mail, in person through your post commander, post adjutant, post finance officer, or any post officer currently serving). The American Legion Annual Dues, are payable on or after July 1, 2026, for the annual year of 2027.
Current dues for American Legion Dues for Post 1776, are $55 per
year.
The Breakdown is:
$23.50 to National
$22.50 to the American Legion Department of Alabama
$9.00 dollars to the local post
$55.00
For information on how to become a “paid up for life member,” you may contact your post adjutant / post finance officer, John Blackburn.
Remember, by paying as early as possible after July 1st, you will maintain in good standing, and have uninterrupted access to: Your local post, voting rights, and benefits like discounts, legion magazines, etc.
