PATRIOTS DAY RIDE!
13 September 2025, dawned, bright and beautiful with temperatures in the mid to high 80’s, simply perfect for riding. Members of Post 1776 gathered at 7:30 in the morning to prepare for the Patriot Day ride, a ride to to help support the Veterans at the Bennie G. Adkins State Veteran's Home.
This being our first event as a brand new American Legion post we were a little apprehensive about how it would turn out. Not only was it our first ride, but we learned after setting the date that there were four other events in the “Wiregrass”. To our surprise as the time for the Safety Brief arrived, we had 21 bikes and riders registered, you could hear a sigh of relief from our Ride Coordinator. After the safety brief and the Rider’s prayer, it was 10:00 am and it was time for KSU (kick stands up) as the riders departed for their first stop in Brundage, Alabama and the home of American legion Post 145,
After a 50-minute ride, we arrived at our first stop in the beautiful town of Brundage at American Legion Post 145. They rolled out the red carpet for us as they provided water sodas, cookies, and great fellowship with some of their members, family, and friends. We tip our helmets to Post 145, Thank You Brothers.
We learned about the Post’s history and saw pictures and heard about past Post leaders. Then it was time to depart.
We took to the back roads of Alabama, as we traveled over to Abbeville and Post 119 for our second stop. When we arrived in Abbeville some of our riders had to break off and head for another engagement. We thank them for adding a little extra time to ride with us. While in Abbeville it was time for lunch. During lunch the riders shared not only a great food, but, also stories of their past adventures. The remaining riders’ left after lunch and headed back to American Legion Post 1776 and home The last rider checked in at 2:30 bringing the ride to an end.
It turned out to be a momentous day as we took a moment to reflect on the events leading up to the ride. A couple of minutes to relax. Then it was time to start planning for next year’s Patriot Day Ride. We hope to see everyone at the 2026 Patriot Day’s Ride registration on 12 September 2026. Please mark your calendar and come out and enjoy the fun.
Please Join us in 2026 for our next Veteran Benefit Ride on Saturday, Septerber 12, 2026, with registration starting at at 8:00 am, at the VFW Post 3073 in Taylor, Alabama.
